Severe Tooth Pain. Increases On Eating. On Pain Killers. Nerve Involvement To Consider Extraction. Treatment?

I have been having agonising toothache for three days. I went to dentist today and he examined and xray'd but nothing showed up.

I asked for antibiotics and he agreed and gave me some.

I'm just taking painkillers which help but when I have food or a drink the pain intensifies so badly.

He said he is reluctant to remove the filling in my teeth as it's so big and old and very close to my nerves but if pain persists that's what he'll have to do.

When I touch my tooth it feels sore / bruised. No trauma has happened.

It's an upper right back tooth. The pain is intense at times. In using sensitive toothpaste but that hasn't helped.

Please can you offer me some advice?

Hi,

Thanks for asking your question in healthcare forum.

I have gone through your concern.

You haven't mentioned whether the tooth is mobile or not.

Also it is important to know if the tooth is previously treated with Root canal Treatment or just had done filling in it.

There are more chances of tooth being fractured which is slightly difficult to diagnose even with x- ray.

Use of painkillers like Tab Ketorol - DT twice daily is necessary to arrest severe pain.

If i would come across such situation in my patient, i would start intentional Root Canal Treatment to give immediate relief from pain if tooth is not fractured & extraction of the tooth if it is fractured.

Avoid taking hard food stuff specially from that side.

Hope this serves your purpose.
Take care.

Hello and welcome.

Please do not be worried ,as per given history it appears that you have deep dental decay.

It might require root canal treatment. Therefore the old filling should be removed and temporary filling should be applied for a week .If the symptoms persists then you definitely require root canal treatment.

Meanwhile take a complete course of antibiotic and analgesics.but please do not repeat the course without consulting your dentist.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Your symptoms suggest that your tooth is infected such type of infected tooth needs to be treated with Root canal treatment to save it permanently.

A thorough clinical and radiological examination by the Dentist is required.
Take a course of Augmentin and Aceclofenac serratiopeptidase combination this will definately subside your pain.

At home take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.

Hope you find this as helpful,

Regards..

Hi...welcome to HCM.

After going through your symptoms it seems that the tooth you are talking about is in advanced state of dental caries/decay.

Pain during eating and on touching are some common findings.

You mentioned that you are having some filing in that tooth, it is advised that you get that filing removed and get undergo a root canal treatment for that tooth.

Since pain is due to decay of tooth the use of sensitive tooth paste won't help.

You can do warm saline rinses n take a painkiller to subside your pain but they are only temporarily solutions to your symptoms.

Consult your dentist as soon as possible for the correct line of treatment.

Thank you

hello, we are here to look into your problem and help you out..

what your dentist advised you is right. As the pain is intense and persistent it is suggestive of ongoing infection in your tooth what we called is a irreversible pulpitis.

The medication would give you relief for short period, sensitivity tooth paste would not help you out.

As the filling in your tooth is old and close to nerves the tooth should be treated for that.
your dentist would suggest you the root canal treatment to save your tooth or if it is badly damaged he would suggest extraction for the same.

Hope the information is helpful to you, kindly give us the fedback.

Regards.
