Sensitive Upper Lips In Pregnancy. Is This Normal?
I am almost 20 weeks pregnant and have noticed that my upper lip is very sensitive while pregnant. I first notice this in my first pregnacny after blowing up balloons . It s never been reallh bad before but this pregnacny it seems to be more sensitive . Today I have been sweating lots and its been stingy most of the day and been red, even now that I ve cooled down its still red . What would cause this to happen and is this common ?
Hello
Thank you for your pregnancy.
What you describe sounds like angioedema
This is a type of allergy where the lips swell up, they go red and there is stinging and itching sensation.
Allergies of all types are common in pregnancy, however what you describe is not pregnancy specific.
You should not take it lightly, because in severe cases, the throat , tongue etc might swell similarly, leading to breathing difficulties.
Consult your obstetrician at the earliest and have a specific diagnosis and treatment for the condition.
Take care.
