Rubbery Painless Lump Under Earlobe. Suggested Lymphona. Is The Lactate Dehydrogenase Level-LDH Dependable To Diagnose Lymphoma?

I have a rubbery painless lump right under my right-hand side earlobe--a swollen lymph gland. I've gone to the Dr and he says it could be Lymphoma. I wanted to get a blood test (the lactate dehydrogenase level-LDH) to see if I need to proceed to get a biopsy. Is that a test which is dependable to diagnose lymphoma? I have no pain or infections in my scalp, mouth, teeth, throat and I have had night sweats as well. I'm 54, Female. How is the cell called Reed-Sternberg detected? I doubt I have Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Radiologist 's  Response
this is an enlarged post aur ocular lymphnode which is most commonly seen with dandruff or any minor scalp infection
there is no need to worry
initial local treatment
sebamed shampoo
oflox TZ
and levo Cetrizine
should work.
kindly consult a trichologist or skin specialist for best results
the gold standard for confirming lymphoma would be an FNAC from the node
but not required at present

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Vandana Khare's  Response
Hi!
welcome to HCM!
your painless lump below right ear can be a lymph node or parotid gland. If its a lymph node it can be chronic or granulomatous lymphadenitis.if its parotid it can be inflammatory or neoplastic lesion of parotid.lymphoma is also a possibility but a minor possibility.
My advice is to get a FNAC done, its a simple test and gives result within hours ,wait for the result.
LDH is not used for diagnosis of lymphoma.once lymphoma has already been diagnosed then it can be done to assess prognosis.
Conditions that can raise LDH levels include heart failure, hypothyroidism, anemia, and lung or liver disease.
Reed-Sternberg is found in Hodgkins Lymphoma .it can be detected with light microscopy in FNAC smear and biopsies of lymph node with Hodgkin's lymphoma .
Hope I have answered all your queries.take care!
