Right Groin Pain, Started After Riding Bike. What Could Be This?

I am experiencing right (my right) groin pain...a sharp pain when I move my right leg sideways or if I attempt to, say, kick a football. This pain started when I began riding my new bike. I associated it with the action of mounting & dismounting the bike. This condition has not improved over several months, & is beginning to bother me. Regards Rob.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

The fact that you are experiencing pain only during certain movements indicates some musculotendinous injury or inflammation.

Try the below mentioned measures -
* Rest to the inflamed part and don’t involve in activities which puts additional strain on them.
* Ice packing should be applied for about 20 minutes once in every 2 hours.
* Moist heat application over the affected area to relax the muscles
* Analgesic & anti inflammatory medications as needed

If the above measures fail to provide symptom relief, consult an orthopedic surgeon for an evaluation and management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM

The pain you experiencing after riding bike seems to be due to muscle or ligament strain. Giving rest to the area and avoid activities that involve painful muscles is principle of treatment. As you had not improved over several months, I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the Xray/MRI of the area affected under his/her guidance.

Hope this will helps you. Take care.
