Raised Roughness On Vaginal Wall. No Soreness Or Swelling. History Of Long Periods, Going Through Menopause. Concerning?
Hi i and 51 and starting to go thru menopause. My periods lately have been either very heavy or some cycles just extremely light (pretty much spotting) but lasting for around 2 weeks. We were gone these past two weeks on vacation and have needed to use about one tampon a day while i was gone. We got home late last night and I was just heading to bed and couldn't remember if I had taken out the one I had put in yesterday or not. I felt for it and thought I could feel part of the string but it seemed to be broken off. I felt up further to see if the tampon was there but realized what I thought was broken off string was actually a raised roughness on the wall of my vagina. It's not really sore or puffy so I doubt it's infection. Do you think I should be concerned. I've never noticed anything like it before.
Hello, Many of the symptoms mentioned by you are normal physiological events that occur close to menopause.Irregular cycles ,as mentioned by you is normal towards menopause.Very few women menstruate regularly till menopause. At your age, stress and hypothyroidism may be the other causes. Towards menopause oestrogen ,an harmone in females reduce. This causes thinning of the vaginal skin, which along with the reduced secretions make the skin dry.Due to these changes vaginal wall may be rough to palpate. This is also called as vaginal atrophy.Lack of pain and swelling are features against any infection and inflammation.Regular PAP smears are essential as in any woman of you age to screen for cervical cancer. I do not think there is any reason for you to be concerned as of now.None of the symptoms mentioned by you warrant any major worry. So relax and enjoy life.
