Prescribed Avonex For Multiple Sclerosis, Also Have Optic Neuritis. Why Do I Have White Spots On Brain?

I am 72 years old about twoto three years ago. I came down with optic neuritis, and I was falling a lot. The Doctor thought it was MS. They put me on Avonex. It did not work. They then put me on Myophenolate. That has worked. But I still have the white spots on my brain, can you tell me anything. Sandy

Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM.
MS is caused by damage to the myelin sheath- the protective covering that surrounds nerve cells. When this nerve covering is damaged, nerve signals slow down or stop. This nerve damage (by the immune cells) is seen as spots in brain. There is no known cure for multiple sclerosis but however, there are therapies that may slow the disease.
