Pregnant Took Macrobid For UTI. Thick Urine With Mucus. Need To Be Concerned?
I am 5 months pregnant and the last time I went to the doctor I had a UTI . My doctor prescribed Macrobid and I was instructed to take it twice a day for seven days. After finished the meds I asked if my urine could be checked again, just in case. When I went to pee I noticed a white mucous type of substance and my urine was thick. I ve never had this problem, what could this mean?
Hello
Thank you for your query.
What you describe sounds like a cloudy urine.
This could be due to various reasons.
The commonest is a urinary tract infection or UTI.
It is possible that you did not respond to the treatment given earlier or you have had a repeat UTI.
A urine test would show you what is the case.
Sometimes, protein is excreted in the urine normally in pregnancy, and more so in case of hypertensive or diabetic women.
Again a urine analysis would tell you if thats the case.
Dehydration and inadequate fluid intake could lead to a thick and cloudy urine.
Please consult your doctor and have complete urine testing.
Improve on your fluid intake.
Take care.
