Popping Sound From The Head With Headache. Is It Something Serious?

A couple of months ago I heard a loud popping in the right side of my head followed by a bad headache. I haven t gone to see a doctor about it. Since then the area it popped in has a dull pain type sensation and I get headaches in that area. Also, for as long as I can remember I have had a crackling type noise at the base of my skull where the spinal cord connects.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.

First of all, I would like to reassure you that your symptoms do not suggest any serious neurological or brain-related illness.

For symptom relief, you may take analgesics such as ibuprofen or diclofenac tablets.

If your headaches continue to persist, then, you may undergo a CT scan of the brain to exclude any internal problem.

The sound at the junction of head with neck is also normal.

I hope it helps. Please get back if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD (Internal Medicine), DM (Neurology)
