Pilonidal Surgery, Pain, Drainage Smelling Bad. Infected?

I had Pilonidal Surgery on the 18th of ths month. I go back this Thursday for my Two week check up. I still have alot of pain, and my drainage is starting to smell bad. I wash it with soup and water everyday and pat dry. Does it sound like it is infected? If so what would my surgeon have to next? I have stiches. He didn t leave it open.

Hi. Welcome to HCM
normal healing time for pilonidal surgery is 3-6wks.The presence of discharge indicates infection.Your infection might not have cleared & there is every chance that the site might now be also infected with anaerobic bacteria. These anaerobic bacteria are present in intestines(also at other sites) & frequent cause of deep abscess. The discharge due to anaerobic bacteria will be foul smelling. These are readily sensitive to metronidazole.please consult your clinician,if possible get a culture & sensitivity of sample done(for pathogen).
