Palpitation And Shortness Of Breath During Pregnancy. BP And Pulse On Higher End. Is This Normal?

I am 16 weeks pregnant. My doctor has prescribed be Propranolol for my palpitations. It seems they are still coming on pretty frequently. I work in a hospital and I had them check my blood pressure and pulse because I was starting to feel the palpitations again. It was 147/91 and a pulse between 128-115 over 20 mins. What should I do? Is this normal? I am also experiencing shortness of breath along with it.

Hi,
Pregnancy is a physiologic state of increased stress on a female body. I would like to know if this is the first time you are pregnant? did you have any previous cardiac ailment? If no, then please do get a full standard cardiac checkup like ecg, ECHO from your doctor. Also returning back to your query, your symptoms might indicate onset of a condition named as pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH). It needs regular monitoring from doctor but you can manage fine with medications & the condition gets resolved often after giving birth to child or after termination of pregnancy. Also I think Labetolol might be a better option for your treatment. Do consult your doctor about this drug also. Best wishes
