Painful Tongue At Back, Presence Of Lump, Ear Pain, Swollen Neck Glands. What Is It?

Hi I have developed a really painful tongue at the back and to one side. Initially I thought it was an ulcer but it feels liKe a small lump. I have also developed a pain in my ear on the same side and my glands on that side of the neck feel swollen and sore to touch. I am not sniffly but my eyes are really sore too. I also lost my voice a few weeks back but it eventually came back and I did note sniffer any other symptoms. I am diabetic taking Victoza, metformin and glib azide. Many thanks for any advice as to what it could be.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello and welcome to HCM,

Reading into your symptoms it is clear that in all probability you have developed an acute episode of tonsillitis and pharyngitis which could have been secondary to the throat infection you had earlier and just recovered.
Do these:
1. get an ENT consult as soon as possible and start on proper medications including antibiotics and anti inflammatory
2. If the pain is very severe then consider injectable for faster and better symptom control
3. Impress upon the doctor to also start anti reflux medications for better symptom control
4. Do not stop your diabetic medication at any cost and make sure you are in constant consultation with your dermatologist during this time to ensure a proper sugar control. This is important because if sugars are not controlled the it is difficult to control your infection and vice versa.

take only warm fluids and avoid spicy or oily food

get well soon
