Pain While Swallowing And Talking, Yellowish Stuff Coming From Throat, Swollen Red Tonsil. Tonsil Cyst Or Tonsillitis?

Hi, my girlfriend says that it hurts for her to swallow and talk. She also says that there is yellowish green stuff coming from her throat when she pushes on it with a cuetip. I look up the symptoms and and found some things on it. I asked her some questions like, is her tonsil red or swollen and she said it is both. I also askes if there was a white spot on her tonsil but she said she didn't know. I figured up two possible things it could be, which are a tonsil cyst or Tonsillitis. Im not sure what it is. Get to me as soon as possible. Thanks.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef, a general surgeon answering your query.

With the history of pain while swallowing or talking, the most probable diagnosis goes towards a bacterial infection of the tonsils, which is common in this season.

If I were her doctor, I would go with a throat swab culture/sensitivity test. and while waiting for the report, I would prescribe a broad spectrum antibiotic for her along with an anti inflammatory, a decongestant,an anti allergic and a local antiseptic gargles for her. The antibiotic might have to be changed depending on the culture and sensitivity report of throat swab. With this regimen for five to seven days, she should be completely relieved of her symptoms. However if the symptoms persist, and continue to increase in intensity ( which is less likely), she has to be reviewed by an ENT specialist for further management.

Thanks for choosing health care magic forum for your health query. Wishing you an ealry recovery. Dr Shareef.
