Pain In The Throat, Chest Pain While Eating, Difficulty In Swallowing. Cause?

My friend has a health issue, When she eats something, she feels like its hard to push the food in through the channel thats called as esophagus (hope i spelled it right) and in nights she gets chest pain where the food/air travels in and wont be able to sleep straight. Whole day throat is aching, actually not aching but feel like something is holding in. What might be the cause?

These features are highly suggestive of obstruction of the food pipe (oesophagus).

You have not mentioned her age or habits.....
With advanced age, cancer is the common cause.
In younger people, stricture is common.
Occasionally, there are other causes like disturbed motility and so on.

The only way is to do an Endoscopy (A tube is introduced through the mouth down to stomach and beyond).
Earlier it is done, better it is for the patient.
