General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM.
If this pain depends on position and moving then this is more probable neuromucular pain and this is why his abdominal scan was normal. He should rule out pinched nerve or pulled muscle in left thoracla and abdominal region. Also it may be enlarged spleen or kidney stone so he needs further evaluation.
Thanks for the query. Regards

General & Family Physician Dr. Madhu's  Response
Hello ,
Thank you for your query . The left sided abdominal pain can be due to various causes such as kidney stones , hernia , torsion testis, gastroenteritis .In your husband s case, as the pain increases on sitting for a longer time and relieves on lying down, this could be due to inguinal hernia - left sided. It aggravates on lifting heavy weights, straining , chronic cough.
Hernia is a protusion of abdominal contents through the weakened abdominal wall.
I would suggest you to consult a surgeon for a detailed examination . This can be treated by surgery following the surgeon s advise.Thank you.
