Operated For A Small Cyst Above The Ear, Advised Not To Smoke Marijuana. Will It Have Negative Effects On The Stitches?

Hi, I am a marijuana smoker who is 18 years old. I just had a small cyst removed above my ear, and I now have stitches. I am very familiar with the effects of the drug and have done extensive research on the topic. My doctor said to avoid raising my blood pressure significantly, and smoking marijuana does raise blood pressure, however I am not sure to what extent. Would smoking have a negative effect on the stitches and cause bleeding?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. Smoking marijuana may slow your healing time and therefore increase your chances of infection. I would believe your doctor when he advised you to not smoke marijuana for that reason. There are many other reasons why you should quit marijuana and primarily for the fact that it could be life threatening with causing variations in blood pressure and such. I strongly suggest that you consult a psychiatrist who has experience in treating substance use issues. I hope you do so as soon as possible.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!
