On Glaucoma Medication Since Years, One Eye Completely Dead But Started Gushing With Blood And Popping Out. Treatment Advise?

Hello My question is regarding my dad. my dad has glaucoma and has been on medication and eyedrop for about five year. One eye is completely dead but started gushing with blood today and even popping out. An optician says he would have to perform a surgery to remove the eyeball. I m concerned about the surgery because my dad s optical nerves might be weak as he is 84 years of age. What do you think?

Hello,
As from the history your dad is a known patient with glaucoma, but unfortunately he has lost his complete vision in one eye because of advanced stage of glaucoma. Since it has become red now, which probably indicates absolute stage of glaucoma.
The treatment options available are laser cyclophotocoagulation or cryo photocoagulation to the affected pain for pain relief. Removal of the eye ball is usually not required.
The most important part is treatment for the other eye as he has already lost vision in one eye. Hence I advice you to consult eye doctor or preferably glaucoma specialist for treatment.
Thank you
