On Diovan. Elevated AST, Dropped Platelets, Dropped Alk Phos. Possible Side Effects Of Diovan?

Yes, please. I began taking diovan 12/2011 - 80mg In Jan of 2023, my AST was 26.00. On 7/19/2012, it was 29.00. 1/16/2013 it was 36.00 and 8/15/2013 it climbed to 50.00. My platelets dropped from 261 on 1/28/2011 to 188 on 8/15/2013. Platelet measurement was not taken during 2012. My Alk Phos dropped from 97.00 on 1/30/2012 to 65.00 on 7/9/2012 and then was 69.00on8/15/2012. I plan to have a consultation visit with my doctor in the next week. However, I would like to know if this seems to be associated with diovan. Thanks for your help,

Dear Friend,

Diovan is Valsartan which is a drug commonly used for treatment of hypertension.

No, Diovan is not associated with rise in ALT, ALP, Platelet count.

However, i don't find a reason for you to be worried about platelet counts, there levels fluctuate, if with in normal range, not a problem.

You need to see why your AST is rising, however not much but your last reading is on higher side.
Why do you get them tested? You have some medical problem?
I hope you are not taking alcohol.
If you are on any drugs for cholestrol, like atorvastatin, they can cause liver enzymes to rise.

Tell us your full Liver function test.
Anyways, you are going to meet your doctor, but i don't find much problem with the information provided here.

Stay Healthy
