Oily Skin, Acne, Boils Around Nose. Taking Sefdin And Rantac. Will Accutane Help?

hello doctor, I have this oily skin and from the age of 17 i have been suffering from acne problem usually i get boils around my nose area only and due to that scars have been forming around the nose. I have been advised by my skin doctor to take sefdin+ rantac combo. whenever I take a dose the acne issue will be temporarily subsided and after few days it erupts again. Can i take accutane tablet for treating the oil issue. Please advice!

HI,
Thanks for writing to us.
Acne is treated according to grade and severity. Milder variants of acne respond well to topical medicines alone while severe variants requires oral drugs too.
In your case i would advise you to
Use a face wash meant for oily skin ie containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid.
Apply benzoyl peroxide gel/ cream in morning and adapalene gel in night only over acne lesions in small amounts.
Use water based moisturisers meant for oily skin.
Avoid squeezing your lesions.
The above steps too would reduce oiliness over face

If these steps do not help in controlling acne then please consult a dermatologist nearby to start oral medicines like azithromycin/doxycycline or minocycline with or without isotretinoin. As oral drugs can have some side effects if taken unsupervised so a doctor's consultation is must.
