Octogenarian With Osteoporosis And Hypertension Experiencing Severe Pain In Upper Leg. What Could This Be?

Hi, I am the sole care giver for my Mother who is 87 years old. She has osteoporsis and had a lot of pain in her back. The doctor prescribed Lidocaine 5% patch. Works wonders, but now she is experienceing severe upper leg pain. She is not eating very well and I have to force her to drink. She is also on two different water pills for high blood pressure. My sister and I have some to the conclusion that maybe the leg pain is from a potassium deficiency. She uses a walker to get around and now I have to practically lift her up and she is very shaky on her feet. I think it is weakness. Please Help!

Thank you!

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain in the leg could be related to osteoarthritis or a muscle spasm. If it is not relieved with hot fomentation and muscle relaxants then needs investigations.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
