My Husband Attempted Suicide By Cutting His Throat. Healing Time?

My husband attempted suicide by cutting his throat in which he severed his saliva gland which could not be repaired during surgery. It has been 4 weeks now and he is still unable to swallow or speak correctly. Is there a time frame that is normal for healing? His tongue is also still swollen.
