Mood Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Irritated, Frustration, Anger, Sexually Active. What Can Help?
I am researching mood disorders and bipolar disorder. I have a 16 yr. old daughter that I am having quite a bit of trouble with and feel that she needs some sort of help. She is very irritable and angry most of the time. She has problems at school. She has been in a number of altercations with others over sometimes very minor things. If someone does not agree with her she gets very defensive and even has cut off friendships because of this. She has a tendency to be slightly violent even towards me. She has slapped me,etc. I am very concernced also because she is VERY sexually active and has been with a number of boys. Currently she is wanting to date a 27 year old and I have refused to allow this. She skips school frequently and does poorly in school. Her attitude toward everything (and I quote her here) is Fuck It. Who cares? She does not think about the consequences of anything she does. She blames others for her problems. Her father is in and out of her life. He will call and tell her he will buy her something or take her somewhere then doesn't show up. She acts as if she doesn't care, but it does hurt her. I am terribly concerned that her behavior will lead to issues that are quite serious.
** 1. from the history you have mentioned/provided, it seems that she is suffering from ADHD [attention deficit hyperactive disorder], any family history of the same in closed relatives? 2. Any exposure to environmental toxins or nutritional deficiency? 3. The function of chemicals in the brain that help regulate attention and activity sometimes might show some difference. 4. Talk with a Neurologist or ADHD researchers about questions or concerns you have about these issues and for more information, who might consider for psychotherapy [parent skills training/social skill training, family and behavior therapy]
