Mastoid Bone Replaced. Restored Hearing. Having Wax/water Feeling. What Could It Be?

My mastoid bone was replaced 30 years ago, wonderful doctor that resotred my hearing . Now I am having sounds in my ear, bass drum, and feels like there is wax build up. I know there are sounds (pitches) that I do not hear, and ahave not heard for a long time, but the bass drum and the was/water feeling is new. What is going on.

Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M. for your query.

I have gone through your query regarding unwanted sounds are herd. Though you had been operated for your mastoid surgery about 30 years ago, and since than you were fine. Now you are suspecting for wax in ear.

No doubt you may be having wax in your ear but wax usually gives feeling of heavyness in ear, to get relief from wax you should put wax softener ear drop in your ear ,than after ear should be cleaned either by succession or syringing.

But I am suspecting as you have developed tinnitus, which is quite common and it occurs due to spontaneous depolarization of hair cells of internal ear without any external stimulus.

Your ear demands thorough examination and relevent investigations for proper management.

Regards.
