Many Nodules On Side Of Neck. Severe Headaches. Red Itchy Bumps On Cheek. What Are They?

Hello i have alot of nodules on the left side of my neck . My right side is perfectly fine. I have had major headaches for the past 3-4 months. I dont know what to think about these nodules. Recently i woke up with a huge edemous red itchy bumps on my left cheek. I thought they were hives but they have lasted for a week now. Im very worried and stressing out about these findings. Can u help guide me on what it possibly could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there
Thanks for your query

I think the nodules on your neck are enlarged lymph nodes. You also have some skin problem on your left cheek. Enlarged lymph nodes can be caused by infection, auto-immune diseases or malignancy.
As I was reading through your case, two possibilities came to my mind, one is shingles of face. It is an infection caused by same virus as chickenpox. It comes down with fever and weakness too. Other possibility is lymphoma causing enlargement of lymph nodes.
It is important to do a physical examination and investigations to get to a diagnosis and to rule out the ominous possibilities.
If it is shingles then it will improve over a period of 3-4 weeks. But the post-shingles complications like pain can last for a period of months. An anti-viral like acyclovir can help in reducing the complications.

I hope I addressed your concerns
Thanks
