MRI Showed Area Suspicious Of Metastasis, PET Showed Nodules On Thyroid And Cyst On Ovaries, Biopsy Showed Nodule. Cancer Signs?

My mother had an MRI that showed areas suspicious of metastasis . A PET Scan showed nodules on her thyroid and cysts on her ovaries. A biopsy was done on the thyroid that showed a 3.4 centimeter nodule clustered with few veins. The next step is a blood test with t markers for the ovaries. Does all of this activity mean there is probably cancer and the doctors are just trying to be sure?

I am sorry that your mother is unwell.
The term metastasis means spread of cancer from one part of the body to the other. The MRI states that the areas were suspicious for cancer, meaning that it is not definite.
The tests that the doctors are doing are to determine if cancer is present and if so, where is the primary (the original area of the cancer).
This will influence treatment because different drugs are used depending on the type of the cancer present. Advances have been made that allow for better treatment and cure of cancer depending on its stage.
