Lump On Throat, Difficulty In Breathing. Treatment?

Hello, I have what feels like a lump on the left side of my throat a little above and to the side of the adams apple. I can't really feel it on the outside but if I press there I feel it more on the inside. I have had it for a while and notice it all the time but sometimes more than others. I notice it most at night when I am lying on my back. Its almost hard to breath or irritating to breath like something is blocking the airway. I have read some things about it being "in your head" so I don't want to make a big deal about it. Could you help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I can not locate exact site of the lump you refer to
- It can be a toncillar swelling if in upperpart of throat.-it it mostly painful,(no pain only if it is chronic)It also makes swalloing painful&nees a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicines as per Dr's advice.
-In case it is midway in the throat, situated just by the side of adam's apple--seems to be a thyroid swelling ,it does press on air way,can have difficulty in swalloing ,hoarseness of voice -mostly no pain. & needs aconsultation of aphysian.you will need some blood tests, probably a scan .
It can be simply treated by medicines or may need a surgery.-The diagnosis will be confirmed after examination & investigations

General Surgeon Dr. M Y Shareef's  Response
Hi ! If really you are feeling a lump in the inside of your throat which is causing difficulty in breathing, then I would suggest you not to delay and take appointment with an ENT surgeon at the earliest to get yourself examined clinically for further investigations and needful. It may not be possible to opine on it without getting yourself examined.
Wishing you an early recovery. Thanks.
