Loss Of Hearing, Diagnosed Infection, Sore In Outside Of Ear Or Jaw. Treatment?
Hi I have been to the doctors today I have loss of hearing in my left ear he checked and said was build up and a slight infection I didn't have any pain and he said he couldn't see my ear drum as it was that blocked. He prescribed me otomise and I am now in agony can't even touch any of the outside of my ear or my jaw all down the left side as it is too sore. Is this normal?
Hi, The Otomise ear spray your doctor has prescribed you is for outer ear infections and it contains a steroid and an antibiotic. I assume this is because your doctor has diagnosed otitis externa. It will take a day or so to work. However, the severe pain you are now experiencing may be due to a middle ear infection as this type of infection can give severe pain radiating to the jaw. I suggest you wait for 24 hours and if you are no better, a visit to your doctor would be appropriate. It may be that you need antibiotic tablets for a middle ear infection. Hope you feel better soon. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
