Left Sided Lower Abdominal Discomfort, Intermittent Diarrhea, Occasional Lightheadedness, Nausea. Signs Of Diverticulitis?
I have has left sided lower abdominal discomfort and pain for four weeks now. Intermittant diarrhoea. I have been prescribed two lots of antibiotics over this time and it has not helped. I also have at times lightheadedness and nausea . Could this be diverticulitis? I was diagnosed as having diverticular disease four years ago. I am a 59 year old woman.
Diverticulitis can only be diagnosed with the help of imaging studies. It cannot be diagnosed clinically but can be suspected on clinical examination. So it seems to be some colicky pain and it can be intestine colic. But the common cause is renal colic and it could be a stone condition, which has to be ruled out first. Antibiotic may not have any role until and unless clinically proved.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Husain, General & Family Physician
