Itching In Arms, Chest, Back. Itching Returned After Stopping Zyrtec. Will Benadryl Help?
Hello, My body is itching in different places mainly in the arms chest and back. This started for the first time in September for the first time in my life. I am in my 40s. I tried zyrtec for about 3 weeks back when it started in September and it went away so I stopped taking it. I was without any itching for about 2 weeks or so. A few days ago the itching started again. I started taking the zyrtec again but had no effect. The itching is getting worst making me want to scratch all the time. Can Benadryl used for allergies help. I would like to try this to see if it helps to provide some relief. Thank you for any help you can provide
hi. Benadryl is Diphenhydramine which is a first generation anitihistamine whereas Zyrtec is cetrizine which is second generation. Both of them differ in the half-life and duration of action and hence dosing frequency but they would both give similar results. Your itching may be due to many causes e.g infections, allergies, dermatosis etc. Please consult a dermatologist and get your skin examined for any skin lesions which would give a clue to diagnosis.
