Itchiness In Vulva Area After Being On Antibiotics For CSF Leak. Any Home Remedy For Possible Medicine Induced Yeast Infection?

I currently on the 7th day of a 10-day antibiotics regimen for a CSF leak, and just yesterday I began experiencing itchiness in my vulva area. Could I possibly have a medication-induced yeast infection due to the bacterial imbalance triggered by my antibiotics? How can I find out and what can I do for at-home relief of the itchiness?

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

* I agree with you that vulvar itching is most likely due to yeast infection. However, there is NO HOME remedy for the same. As such, vulvar infection is usually associated with vaginal infection too and at times, involvement of urine passage.
Therefore, to take care of suspected involvement of vagina and urinary passage, you may apply co-trimazole vaginal cream/ointment thrice daily for 10 days, ALONG WITH Tab Fluconazole 150mg once a day orally, for 10 days. This will eradicate the yeast infection completely.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he agrees with me; order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable treatment as advised.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” rating to my answer, to encourage all doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.

Lastly, if you need a detailed and prompt answer, you may post a "Direct Query (Premium)" addressed personally to me.

Fond regards and have a nice day
