Is Weightlifting Safe While Suffering From Hepatitis A?

I have been diagnosed with hepatitis A 1 weeks ago. My sgpt and bilirubin results are 900 and 9.95 respectively as per the report by the end of 1st week. My eyes are very little yellow. But the thing is i don t feel any weakness or any kind of nausea. It s been two weeks that i haven t done any kind of weightlifting and exercise. So my question was - can i start my weightlifting and exercises and also can i start my protien supplements that i used to take earlier ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Adequate rest is advised for 3 to 4 weeks after contacting condition like jaundice due to Hepatitis A infection.
It takes about 2 weeks for the Bilirubin levels to be back to normal and 4 weeks for liver enzymes to be back to normal. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks for liver tissue to regenerate itself.
Hence, you need to strictly avoid doing heavy exercises like lifting weights, as it could hamper the healing process.
However, you can do your routine activities during this period.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
