Hello Cynthia, One can have tonsils removed without any problems. You have not mentioned since how many years you are having throat pain, tonsils infection and how many episodes in a year. When your tonsils are getting infected frequently with several episodes in a year, doctors may advise to have tonsils removed (tonsillectomy). Function of tonsils will be taken over by other similar organs in the body. There are no significant disadvantages from tonsillectomy.
