Is Thyroid Function Dipping Below Normal During Pregnancy Serious?
I'm 34 weeks pregnant and just been told my thyroid function has dipped below normal. This is for the first time in this pregnancy - I have been tested throughout as have a history of hyperthyroidism (which has now gone - I've not been on medication for 3 years). My question is at this stage in pregnancy are there risks for the baby? Will I need to deliver early?
Hello and thank you for asking! I can understand your concern. An untreated underactive thyroid can affect the outcome of pregnancy and the baby development at every period of pregnancy, but usually depends on how low the function is and how fast it is corrected. You need to start treatment as soon as possible to avoid these complications. Best wishes, Dr.Mirjeta
