Is There Any Drug Interaction Among These Drugs?

I will have a tooth extraction . I am taking the following medications and I am guessing that my dentist is going to use Bupivacaine, A month ago I also had a DTap vaccine. Is there a drug interaction on the following: DTAP VACCINE, AMOXICILLIN, BUPIVACAINE, XANAX, METOPROLOL, CALCIUM SUPPLEMENT, FISH OIL.

Hi,

There are some drug to drug interactions which can be avoided.

1. Metoprolol and Xanax may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure as a result of which you may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption.

2. Using Bupivacaine together with Metoprolol may increase the effects of bupivacaine resulting in drowsiness, mental status changes, convulsions, irregular heart beat or any other heart abnormalities, and low blood pressure. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications.

3. Taking Xanax together with Bupivacaine can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and confusion. Avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving until the effects of these medications have worn off.

4. Taking Metoprolol together with Calcium supplement may decrease the effects of Metoprolol. This can be prevented by separating the intake of Metoprolol and Calcium supplement by at least 2 hours.

Hope these answer your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you best of your health.
