Hello and welcome,

I understand your concern. However , please do not worry.

First about your query : the cervical length does not increase in pregnancy.

Having said this, you have mentioned that the assessment was done at 22 weeks. The cervical length assessment is done at usually around 14-16 weeks. Readings taken after this do not have much scientific value in predicting preterm labor as it is too late to comment. If the length is very small ( less than 1.5 cm) then maybe the chances of preterm labor are higher.

In your case the length is measured at 22 weeks which is not the ideal time for assessment. Also the length is just below 3 cm which is not very short. So please do not worry.

Though the cervical length cannot be increased, the cervix can be closed by applying a stitch on it called cervical encirclage. This too is done at around 14 weeks but can be done till 20 weeks and in some cases till 24 weeks even. So discuss this with your doctor and if she feels the need get the stitch applied.
Then she will not have problems.
Hope this satisfies your query.
