Is Tapering Off Abilify Quickly Safe In An Autistic Child?

I have a 10 yr old autistic son n we cut him off of risperadone 6 wks ago n last week we reduced his abilify from 10 mg down to 5 mg and now this week we went down to 2.5 mg....my question is is that safe? im worried that we may have big changes this week. how does the quick taper of abilify effect youth?

Tapering off the dosage is the way drugs like Abilify(aripiprazole) has to be taken off.
Your question is whether the quick tapering off is going to effect or not. It actually depends upon the duration during which your son has been on Aripiprazole.
As you have already stopped the risperidone, I would advice a very cautious approach and look out for any abnormal withdrawal symptoms or recurrence of earlier symptoms when you are tapering off Abilify.
I hope all these tapering off has been done under consultants advice. Please revert back to your consultant if you face issue with any withdrawal symptoms.
