Is Taking Subutex Advisable To Help Withdraw Opiate Drugs?
Hi! I am needing help coming off opiate drugs. I just had a baby then right after a hysterectomy. I need help getting off of them. My friend is on subutex and she said its helped her alot. Is there anyway I can be prescribed that to get off?? Please help!
Hi & Welcome to HCM. Yes, Subutex can be taken to help withdrawal from opioid drugs. Generally, the opiate withdrawal treatment involves supportive care and medications. Subutex (Buprenorphine) is an opioid partial agonist-antagonist. It has a low abuse potential and its withdrawal is mild in nature hence it is used to prevent withdrawal symptoms in someone who has stopped taking opioid narcotic analgesics. It has been shown to work better than other medications for treating withdrawal from opiates, and it can shorten the length of detoxification. It may also be used for long-term maintenance, like methadone. In addition, other drugs like Clonidine and Methadone are also approved for the opioid analgesic detoxification. Hope this answers your query. Best wishes.
