Is Tailbone Injury To A Child Cause For Concern?

I,m 29 yrs, almost 6 feet tall, about 75 kg, no previous medical history. I was playing with my nephews and slide down a children s slide which was very steep. I completely let go and landed with a bang at the bottom of the slide, on my tail bone. It s been 2 weeks and it s still paining, specially when i sit and more on harder seats. When i lie down it s almost fine. When will it heal and do I need to go in for some X ray or MRI scan???

probably you have a fractured coccyx ( tailbone ) which can cause this discomfort and pain , this bone takes long time to heal , x-ray can confirm the diagnosis and role out other fractures if any .
you can try the following instructions to help you through this :
1- avoid sitting longer period of time .
2- try the doughnut pillow which will decrease the pressure when sitting
3- apply ice for 20 minutes 4 times a day for a few days after the injury
4- you can use non-steroidals such as ibuprofen.
5-avoid constipation because it will increase the pain , by increasing fiber diet and water intake .
in some refractory cases coccyx is surgically removed
I hope this helps
