Is Swollen Eyes And Red Cheeks Caused Due To Antibiotic Eye Drops For Pink Eyes?

My 14 month old has pinkeye and was prescribed antibiotic eye drops (1drop in each eye 4 times a day) I administered a drop before nap time, and when she woke up her eyes look a lot more swollen and her cheeks are red and warm to the touch. Is this an allergic reaction to the drops or just normal for pinkeye? (I just gave her another drop in each eye)

Hi
This is normal symptoms of conjunctivitis. I do not have an idea of what antibiotics you are using. Its too rare coming across allergies with antibiotic eye drops. The antibiotics that are most likely to cause an allergic reaction are penicillins, cephalosporins, and sulfa drugs.
To help relieve the discomfort of pink eye, apply a warm compress for 5 to 10 minutes, three to four times a day. Preservative-free artificial tears can be applied a few times a day. Never use steroid eye drops without physicians advice. For pink eye that seems to be from an allergy, place a cool compress on your closed eye .For pink eye caused by bacteria, the treatment will usually be antibiotic eye drops or ointment. This generally clears the symptoms within a few days. Be sure to complete the full course of antibiotic treatment.
