My husband and I recently started trying to conceive, but I came down with the shingles last week. I m taking anti-viral medication, which the pharmacist said is safe during pregnancy, but is there a risk for the baby if I become pregnant while I have shingles?
Hello Welcome here. All medications are best avoided in pregnancy especially in first trimester. The risk-benefit ratio guides the choice of treatment. If the medicine is urgently required, then only its prescribed in pregnancy. Please talk to your gynecologist about this before conceiving. Or i would suggest you wait for pregnancy till your shingles is cured. Hooe this helps. Thanks.
Dr. Nidhi.
