Is Severe Cramps A Sign Of Menopause?

I am 49 years old. Last several months, I have noticed that in every other menstrual cycle, I bleed heavier than usual and have major cramps in my genital area. Almost feels like contractions/spasms - not the normal cramp. My cycles have changed where I now have one every other month. And about every other cycle is very painful. Are the extra cramps part of early menopause? My pap smear was normal. Thank you!

Hello,thankyou for the question
Brief..It could be fibroid growth of uterus
Detailed answer...Since in menopause stage ,the menstural cycle can be irregular and heavey ,but severe cramping and heavy bleeding seems to be fibroid mass of uterus. My opinion would be get checked by a gynaecologist and discuss about laproscopic diagnosis of this cause.
Hopefully my answer wil be helpfull
