Is Pityriasis Versicolor Contagious?

Goodmorning Doctor. im suffering from pityriasis versicolor.The condition that causes small patches of the skin to become scaly and discoloured. I have discovered that it cant be spread from one person to another but my 3 year old daughter seem to be having the same condition.as it started on her chest.could it be that i passed it to her her?or is it somethimg else that she has?

It is not contagious.
Tinea versicolor (also called pityriasis versicolor) is a common fungal infection of the skin which does not spread from person to person.
This fungus can be found on healthy skin. It only starts causing problems when the fungus overgrows. A number of factors may trigger this growth, including hot & humid weather, oily skin, hormonal changes, or decreased immunity.
You can use the OTC available anti-fungal creams/lotions like Clotrimazole or Terbinafine once or twice a day for at least two weeks. If you don't see an improvement after four weeks consult a dermatologist for a probable use of oral antifungal drugs like Itraconazole, etc.
