Hi I found a lump on my labia minora, I squeezed it and some pus stuff came out. What should I do. Is there anything I can do to stop this happening again? Also over the last few months I have noticed when I go for a wee I sometimes have a bit of discharge, it is only a small amount of yellowy stringy stuff, it does not smell at all. I am 45 by the way. Thanks for any help.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.Your problem is most likely bartholinitis, infection of bartholin glands.Germs that quite commonly infect these glands include Staphylococci, which are 'bugs' found in skin spots and in people's noses.Streptoccci, which are the common organisms found in sore throats and on the skin.Coliforms, which are bowel germs. Also, bartholinitis may be caused by the gonococcus, which is the germ of the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhoea. For that reason, if you have bartholinitis it is sensible to have a test for gonorrhoea. A test for chlamydia should also be done. Bartholinitis is treated by antibiotics.Incision and drainage will be needed in case of formation of abscess.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
