Is Laryngitis Related With Severe Throat Pain, Hoarse Voice And Chest Pain?

hi ..i have been having issues with my throat on and off for a couple of months- i am getting what i thought was recurrent tonsillitis.. but after a few rounds of antibiotics nothing gets better for more than a few days my voice is totally different and i cant hit high notes or talk properly - it sounds so hoarse and different . i feel a burning sensation latley in the throat area/neck area and today i am coughing a little and my my chest literally feels like its hurting so much. is this laryngitis, cancer or thyrois related, as my voice is completly different.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Your main concern looks to be related changed voice along with other symptoms of chest pain, pain in throat and so on. Changed voice is most probably due to some problem with vocal cords as primary reason but in some cases it can be part of the surrounding inflammation and infection too. The best way to get a proper diagnosis is as follows:
* Endoscopy by an ENT Surgeon for the pharynx and larynx give the best diagnosis
* MRI of the larynx and neck tells about surrounding structure which can not be seen on endoscopy
* Relevant tests of blood
* X-ray chest and if there is any positive finding then CT scan

All these along with proper clinical evaluation by an ENT Surgeon can help to get the exact diagnosis and allow a specific treatment. Voice rest is most important and you should hold singing or loud talking till diagnosis and management is done. If the primary cause is in the lungs then specific treatment will be needed for this condition too.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
