Is It Safe To Use Clindamycin For Swelling And Infection In Ears?

Hi, I have just recently stretched up a few sizes with my ear gauges. I take good care of myself and have good hygienic but as expected they are swollen, but I have a prescription for clindmyacin (not many left) and a prescription for hydrocodone/apap plus 30mg codiene/ibuprofen. I took some of the pain medication so the swelling will go down and the discomfort is much more bearable yet my main concern and question is wether or not the clindmyacin will be effective at preventing infection. I also have used an antibiotic/pain ointment cream on my newly gauged ears a few times today while at the same time sanitizing my ear plugs with rubbing alcohol. Please write back as soon as possible. I will have a few gastroligical questions of this question is answered in a timely manner. Thank you

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand..

As per your complain as you have recently got your ears gauged you need to take painkillers like Ibuprofen to relieve pain and reduce inflammation..
You should apply a steroid ointment over the ear to reduce inflammation..
Cleaning the plugs is also fine..
As far as taking antibiotics is concerned it is generally not needed but in case if you suspect that the area is getting infected you can take Clindamycin for reducing infection or even you can take a course of antibiotics for 3 days to prevent infection and clindamycin can be taken in this regard..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
