Is It Safe To Take Ramipril Along With Amlodipine?

I have been taking Ramipril 10mg for many years. Most of the time my b.p. is 140/78-ish, but recently ( I am going thru a divorce) I have had peaks of 170/145 !!! My doctor has recommended I add 5mg of amlodipine to my daily dose. Is this safe? And can I take at the same time?

Hi,
Yes, it is safe to take these two drugs at the same time. The dose of amlodipine your doctor has started you on is at the low end of the dose range. Sometimes these drugs can cause a drop in blood pressure which may cause dizziness particularly on standing from sitting or lying. However, this is unlikely at the doses you are taking.
