Is it safe to take meprate (Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) if you are planning to conceive
I had a very small polyp 2.5mm and my doctor advised me to take Meprate to get rid off it. While on meprat 10 mg for 15 days I got pregnant. A lot of reading on the internet says that it can cause abnormalities in foetus. However some doctors on the forum have also said that it acts as a supporting drug. Now I am quite worried if I should go ahead with this pregnancy or not. Please advise.
Meprate should not be taken during pregnancy as it can cause organ malformation and toxicity in the fetus. Although, many women have taken this medication and had a normal pregnancy and child, it is still a risk factor.
It is your wish whether you wish to continue this pregnancy or not, but you will never know whether you terminated a normal or abnormal child. I would suggest you to continue the pregnancy, and go about a series of ultrasound and amniocentesis investigations which should help assess the growth and development of the fetus and help you make your decision before the end of the 20 th week of gestation.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
