Is It Safe To Have Sex During Pregnancy?

Hi Doctor,
I am John. My wife is 5 months pregnant now and I would like to know if its ok and safe to have oral sex and intercourse now without hitting her belly hard? So far everything is normal in her pregnancy that she has a low blood pressure now. Also She gets very good orgasm while we have sex now. Will that harm the baby in anyways?
Please answer these and help.
Thanks.

Hi and welcome to HCM.

I understand your concern.

Most women who are having a normal pregnancy may continue to have sex right up until their water breaks or they go into labor. You won't hurt the baby by making love. The amniotic sac and the strong muscles of the uterus protect your baby, and the thick mucus plug that seals the cervix helps guard against infection
orgasm may cause mild uterine contractions (as can nipple stimulation and the prostaglandins in semen), they are generally temporary and harmless.

Many pregnant women dont like sex in first trimester due to nausea and vomiting which they have during this period. But during second trimester this symptoms will subside and they will enjoy sex better.

Coming to oral sex, Licking is fine, but male partner shouldn't blow into genital area. Forcing or blowing air into the vagina could cause an air embolism. If male partner is not suffering from any infection like herpes the pregnant female can make oral sex on male. Anal sex is a complete no in pregnancy.

Unless she is not suffering any other complications in pregnancy like low lying placenta, sex is not contraindicated. Low BP is common in pregnant women and it is not a contraindication for sex.

So conclusion is during pregnancy sex can be done if their is no other complications
