Is It Safe To Have Ciprofloxancin For Prostate Infection?

What is Ciprofloxancin? How strong is it? My son has, we think (him & I), a prostate Infection. Has no idea how he got it. It took a while before he decided to go to the hospital. Clinics closed by the time he finished his work. He has to take it for 21 days. What happens if he forgets it? If he ate (no calcium) but he ate, how long after can he take it? Should he stop his training while taking it? I told him not to drink any alcohol while taking it as I thought it might be a strong medicine. Never saw one you have to take for 21 days. He knows about not taking the calcium. How long will it take for him to see any signs? And finally, what should he do to prevent another infection? Should I mention he is always a nervous child. He is now 20 and he even more nervous, he always wants to make sure we are ok (especially me :-) ). Always willing to lend a hand not just immediate family but friends too. Example when we had a heat wave he drove an hour to see his Grandpa and place a new air conditioner in his window so that it was not too hot in the apartment and came back home and worked at 7:00pm the next. That was all after he had been just sworn in in the Reserve. What a kid, very proud, but I wonder if all the worrying did not cause the Prostate Infection. I searched the internet, but that medicine was hard to find. No problem finding Ciprofloxacin. Maybe it s one of the same, and yes I do believe it s in the family of penicillin because it finishes with in . Tks for the help.

Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

First of all i want to congratulate you about your son,for being this kind of son that you have. Wanting to help everyone, and making sure you are ok :D You,as a mother did a great job here.

Ciprofloxacin is part of fluoroquinolone family that is different from penicillin family. It is safe to be taken,as long as you don't have allergy from this antibiotic,if your kidney function is normal, or if your son is over 18 years old (i know yours is 20). The dose is all right for the infection of the prostate. ciprofloxacin 500 mg, twice per day, after he has eaten something for 3 weeks. Its the best antibiotic for infection of the prostate.

But i need to know about his diagnosis. Did he do any test,if so i need to see them. Usually to be able to say that someone has prostate infection,we need to do an ultrasound, an examine the prostatic fluid, and in the digital rectal palpation, the patient feels a lot of pain when we touch the prostate.
Also he might have a fever also.

So if your son didn't do tests, there is almost impossible to be able to say if he has infection of the prostate or not.

If you have any other question, please feel free to ask me any time.

Wishing good health to your son.
