Is It Safe To Give Painless Vaccination To The Kid? Side Effects?

Hi, I am in dilemma to give our son painless vaccination or not. I would like to know the difference between both and would there be any side effects in future by giving painless vaccine . I have over heard that painless injection does not react so much as normal vaccine. Is it true that the kid should get fever after the vaccine so that the medicine performs well. Kindly advise. Thanks

Hi
You have not mentioned what is the age of your son and what vaccine you wish to give him.

Since DPT is the most painful injection with very common adverse effects like excessive cry, pain and swelling in the site and fever, I think you intend to know about the common DTP and the new DTaP that is claimed to have less adverse effects.
Yes, DTaP has acellular pertussis component and hence less are the adverse effects mentioned above.

There may be controversial opinions on the choice between both.
I feel time tested DTP is better in many ways in terms of immunity.
Immediately after you give the vaccination, start giving cold compresses. Along with this give paracetamol in adequate dosage every 6 hours for atleast 2 days. Problems will be much less!

Pediatrician, Cardiology Dr. Pradeep Kumar Jain's  Response
Hello
Your confusion is justified, as there are so many new vaccines coming into the the market. Also different doctors prescribe different vaccines. DTap also known as painless vaccine is newer research with less side effects ( erythema, swelling, fever , irritability, vomiting) .
There are several studies showing better efficacy of DTaP in comparison to DTP. In contrast to DTP, the DTaP vaccine also has some efficacy against B. Parapertussis. DTaP is costlier about 3 times that of DTP.
After vaccination some fever is common and this is due to some component of vaccine. DTaP is acellular vaccine and it does not contain the component which causes fever and other side effects.
So DTaP is better than DTP in all aspects( except cost)

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
hello

thanks for writing to health care magic

always mention the age and type of vaccine or the name of vaccine etc while asking your question

efficacy wise DTap and and DTwp HAVE no difference

there is lot of variation in their cost

so if cost is not a issue you can go with the much costlier .................painless vaccine (pain and fever may occur to certain extent with both)

if cost is a fact you may give the one with pain and fever and give the child paracetmol drops to reduce fever

thanking you

take care
