Is It Safe To Drink Alcohol With No Problem In Kidney And Liver?

I drink 2-3 single shots of vodka daily, mixed with 4 the times coke. I quit drinking for ten years, then started again about 4-5 yrs ago because of the friendships I developed at a local bar where I play pool. My periodic blood tests don t show a problem with my liver or kidneys. I am 79 yrs old, can I continue the drinking?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
A single shot is 30 mL (10 g), a typical spirit with 40 percent alcohol .For most individuals the danger dose is greater than 80 g alcohol daily.Continued daily imbibing is more dangerous than intermittent consumption when the liver is given a chance to recover. For at least 2 days in the week a person
should not drink alcohol. The liver injury is unrelated to the type of beverage; it
is related only to its alcohol content.
More than four drinks in a day (or more than 14 per week) for men, is considered "heavy" drinking. The kidneys of heavy drinkers have to work harder. Heavy drinking on a regular basis has been found to double the risk for kidney disease.
